The National Fish and Chip Awards were held last week and as always the industry waited with baited breath for the announcement of the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year. This year Florigo customers Frankie’s Fish and Chips proudly raised the top trophy along with ‘The Good Catch – Sustainable Seafood Award’.

Anthony Sykes has grabbed the opportunity to maximise his business in Swinton, Manchester and has recently extended his shop to include a restaurant with a new expanded menu. Whilst the build hasn’t been a smooth one, the result is a dining area and menu that matches the high quality of his fish and chip takeaway.

How do you spread the word about your shop to get more customers through the door? William Rowe from W.J. Rowe Fish & Chips in Stevenage has tried a variety of ways to build on his trade: ‘I’ve put adverts in gyms, on the radio and I’ve done two local papers for 10 years. I wanted to try something new so I’ve just ordered an advert to go on a local bus.’

We’ve had another successful training in Graylings Fish and Chips in North Tawton, Devon. The family owned shop, run by brothers Martin and Lee, already had a Florigo but at 20 years old, it was time to replace it with a newer version which featured all of Florigo’s latest advancements.

One of our trainers has recently reported back on another successful training session in Jane’s Fish and Chip Shop in Helston, Cornwall. The owners, Jonathan and Famke, were completely new to the trade so our trainer was on hand for two days to guide them through the daunting prospect of their shop opening its doors for the first time.
