WJ Rowe Ltd - A Racing Start

Stevenage, in Hertfordshire is probably most famous now as the birthplace to Formula 1's Lewis Hamilton - but it was in fact the first borough to start building the new towns around London in 1946 and the Bedwell Estate was built in 1952. In 1962 Bill and Maureen Rowe opened their first fish and chip shop in the area and shortly after they opened W.J Rowe Limited (known affectionately as Bedwell Fish Shop) which they ran for many years. William started work in the shop when he was 18 (after getting a proper education first!) and worked with his father for many years until he passed away a few years ago.

William took over the reins in 1991 and has worked hard (though the staff and customers may disagree!) to produce the best fish and chips he can. Sadly as business has increased it became obvious that the old range could not cope - William also decided the time was right for a new shop fit - he looked around and spoke to other fryers, visited exhibitions and finally called a number of range manufacturers of which Florigo was one.

Lee Woodward, the sales manager for Florigo, was more than happy to offer William all the help and advice he needed, 'William was unsure' said Lee, 'of his exact requirements but I took him to Mark Petrou's and Michael Soteriou's shops and after seeing the range performance and the quality of the product he decided there and then on a Florigo'.

William chose a bespoke; hand crafted counter range with High Efficiency Pans - 2 basket pans for chips and 2 fish pans, together with computer controls and integral filtration. The attention to detail was impeccable with William requesting basket rails to all pans, halogens and ceramics in his hot boxes together with a humidified section with halogen heat only for his pies and of course mirror doors!

John Regan was recommended to complete the shop fit, and working with William they designed a shop that had kerb appeal, functionality whilst still being practical to work in. 'The shop is in a great location' said John, 'and we wanted to make it visible and interesting which I am pleased to say we have achieved and it was also great to work with someone as enthusiastic as William'.

After the range was installed Lee went down to show William how to get the best from the range 'It was great to work with William and his team 'said Lee, 'and the shop looks outstanding I know he will make a huge success of the business for many years - and I look forward to selling to the next generation of Rowe's!'

Since the range and shop fit were completed William has noticed a huge increase in trade, best of all more and more repeat business, 'We had the busiest Monday ever' says William, 'everyone compliments me on the product, I don't believe in leaving chips to go cold and soggy so the basket pans are ideal - I cant praise everyone at Florigo enough - and the back up and maintenance has been outstanding - everyone should give their customers the quality food that this range produces!!
