TJ's Fish & Chips - A place in the sun!

Sandbanks Peninsula Beach, Poole in Dorset is a long strip of golden sandy beach and is popular with locals and tourists alike - an ideal location for a busy fish & chip shop and that's exactly where TJ's Fish & Chips, run by husband and wife team Trevor & Janet Smith, is located.

After leasing the shop 5 years ago they quickly gained an enviable reputation for high quality fish & chips but after a gruelling summer season in 2006 they realised they would have to invest in a new range - one that could cope in times of high demand and also be economical to run when business was quieter.

Trevor & Janet then looked at a number of different range manufacturers, and, having worked in the fish and chip trade for over 20 years, had a first hand knowledge of each ranges capabilities, 'Florigo came top of our shortlist' said Trevor, 'and basket frying seemed the way forward, I had always free fried and although keen to embrace the basket system, it was a big investment and we had to make the right choice'.

So Trevor asked his friends, Peter & Andrew from Longs on Broadway and Les form Wessex Catering, their opinion, they all had absolutely no hesitation in recommending that Trevor should definitely purchase a custom built Florigo, after all Longs on Broadway had just replaced their aging Florigo with a brand new one and Les had worked on the ranges over many years and both knew, first hand, that the new technology and build quality offered by Florigo would only benefit Trevor & Janet especially at their busiest times.

Robert Furey was, as always, on hand to help and advise Trevor & Janet, through the whole process from initial consultation and design through to installation and commissioning, 'It was great to meet Trevor & Janet' said Robert 'they were lovely people to work with and I was very pleased to be able to offer them exactly what they needed'.

Trevor & Janet decided that an island range would be perfect for their shop, with High Efficiency Fish Pans, Basket Pans and Touchscreen controls (suited to either side of the range for ease of use) and two Chip Boxes to see them through the busiest times. The range was enhanced with the addition of in built filtration with separate return pipes and stunning mirror glass doors, for the hot box section, which enhance the presentation of the product to the customers.

'Florigo were brilliant' says Trevor, 'nothing was too much trouble, we serve our fish and chips in boxes and were short of storage space so Florigo even designed and built a unit to store all of my boxes and trays which now sits happily on top of my hotbox - all I can say is I am delighted we chose a Florigo'

Indeed since the range has been installed Trevor & Janet have had a very busy summer to deal with and the range has passed its first test with flying colours. 'One of the biggest things that Florigo could offer' says Janet, 'was the chance to save our existing counter - which is a fantastic feature of our shop, they were able to deliver and install with no damage at all to the glass bricks or counter top'

Trevor & Janet are now looking forward to their next summer season - lets hope the sun shines on Sandbanks!
