The Cottage may be a little off the beaten track but that hasn't stopped a host of famous faces making a bee-line for this famous Blackpool fish and chip shop over the years including French & Saunders, Lenny Henry, Freddie Flintoff, Bobby Ball, Jeremy Clarkson, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and John Major to name but a few and now with new owners, Liz and Jason Horsley, I am sure many more will be trying it out!

There is not a lot that Jason does not know about fish as he has been a wholesale fish merchant since he left school in 1986, where he was taught all about the fishing industry from his late father Norman 'My dad' said Jason 'had a passion for fish, he instilled in me... 'that quality and customer service must always come first'... and that passion he passed on is still with me today - all of our fish is sourced straight from the docks every day at Fleetwood and Aberdeen to ensure the customers get the best available'

His wife, Liz, was running a hotel in Blackpool when they met between them they knew they had the skills to create a really good business, so when they saw The Cottage for sale in Blackpool they jumped at the chance.

In September 2007 they re opened The Cottage for quality fish and chips - it's a takeaway and a licensed restaurant with covers for 56. The Cottage was already really well known in the local area as it was one of the first Fish & Chip shops in Blackpool which opened in 1940 but the building itself dates back to 1856 and was previously known as Causeway Flag Farm!

In early 2008 Jason and Liz both realised they needed a new range as the existing one (although it was a High Efficiency range) was not keeping up with demand and at the same time they decided that the shop needed a full renovation and refurbishment as they both wanted to restore the shop to its former glories - they have even restored the original cobblestones from 1856 and are expecting a visit from English Heritage in the next few weeks.

Robert Furey was invited to the shop to discuss the options 'Robert visited us' said Liz 'and gave us his advice, and the benefit of his experience, on how we could improve the range design that would be beneficial to us - he showed us how we would need less staff to operate the range, run the shop more efficiently and also improve customer service'

Jason and Liz decided to purchase a Florigo, 'Because we wanted a range' said Jason 'that we believed had the best build quality and would be reliable and give me a consistent product day in and day out'

They chose a bespoke, hand crafted 6 pan Florigo wall range, with High Efficiency Fish & Chip Pans - all equipped with the new generation of touchscreen computer controls, integral filtration with separate returns, an integral scrap box and 2 chip boxes - everything was discussed with Robert to create a range that would aid their staff in producing an excellent, and most importantly, consistent product - the hand crafted counter was over 4.7 metres long and included a bain marie and pudding heater and space underneath for the fridges.

The restaurant was completed in December 2008 and the takeaway in March 2009 and since the new range has been installed they have received many appreciative comments from customers complimenting them on the food, excellent service and friendly atmosphere - not only that but takings are up and Jason has also noticed that the

food is a lot cleaner and an altogether much improved product and most importantly a massive saving in oil used, 2 blocks a day which equates to £8000 a year!

The final word from Liz 'No other range manufacturer came close to the service that we have received from Florigo and true to their word their range really is the best!'
