Croft Street Fisheries in Farsley, Leeds is a small takeaway serving the local village. Owned by Rafael Chandler, runner up in a previous Drywite/NFFF Young Fish Frier of the Year Competition and now also one of the training course tutors at the National Federation of Fish Friers.

Rafael has owned the shop for 3 years, and last year decided that the shop was in need of a total refurbishment which was to include the preparation area and the frying range. Rafael said: "I had been looking at the different ranges available for a long time and I knew due to the limited space available to us I needed something that would perform well and give me a high output using only 3 pans."

Rafael decided to approach Rob Furey from Florigo and was delighted when he said he could deliver the new range before the busy Christmas period. With the help of Rob, Rafael decided on a 3 Pan high efficiency wall range, one 3 basket pan for the chips and 2 fish pans.

"I was amazed how smoothly the process went from ordering to installation. On the day of the install the engineers arrived early, within hours the old range was out and the Florigo in place. The guys who did the install were fantastic and I was really amazed just how trouble free the install went. Since that day the follow up service has also been top class, something which I believe Florigo are well known for. I believe you get what you pay for and with Florigo you really do."

"With the new shop layout the range just finished the shop perfectly, we have had so many customers say how wonderful it looks and more importantly comments on how much better the chips taste. This I put down to the high efficiency burners on our chip pan. The chips taste much crisper now and absorb less fat"

"Another great advantage is the extraction system. It is much stronger than on our previous range and at the end of the shift the smell of oil does not hang on your clothes. This has also meant that the shop is much easier to clean, as all the steam is extracted and not left to stick to the walls."

Now Rafael is looking towards developing the shop further by signing up to the new Quality Award Scheme by Seafish. "I believe you have to keep aiming high and constantly look at ways on improving. We are not a big shop and only serve a small community but customers will travel for the best tasting Fish & Chips and obtaining this award will hopefully give us the much needed advertising we need to pull the crowds in."
